This significant (raw) work attempts to portray a collision at the heart, if you will - the artist's genuine struggle between painting as he knows, wishes, and challenges himself to paint vs. how he actually puts the paint on canvas due to outside influences - and, not surprisingly, even his own past success. After much thought on the subject, the following is offered:

The world has (time and time again), acquired to the extent of predictability, works of art created in the moment, subjects so common as to become known as routine from the artist. You see? To this artist, his most prevalent subject matter - fish - reveal more than exploration of simple or complex line, shapes, color, and texture - they are the culmination of 20 years in the studio, struggling with far more than just creative technique - old and new. Yes, this pivotal original offers a bit of every artists' very real conviction that 'great art should be the result of great struggle,' yet often, it is merely, 'the result of one's chase of the creative process,' and here's the sickening part ... far too often, then only ... as    defined     by     someone    else.'   - JVS
